Milltek Sport Unveils its Autosport 2017 Show Star

Milltek Sport Unveils its Autosport 2017 Show Star: click to enlargeMilltek Sport is no stranger to the Autosport International Show at Birmingham's NEC, having exhibited no less than 11 times at this important event – and each time with an impressive show car or two being showcased on its stand. For 2017 however, the Derbyshire-based exhaust firm is upping the ante somewhat by unveiling the hottest tuner car of the moment – the already collectible VW Golf GTI Clubsport S.

To VW aficionados in the know, the latest uber-hot-hatch from Wolfsburg represents the absolute pinnacle of the GTI brand – and is the perfect way to celebrate four decades of this performance icon. Even in factory trim, this car boasts an impressive CV; the EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is boosted from 227bhp from the standard Mk 7 GTI to 306bhp on this model.

The subtly improved exterior styling and interior tweaks also make this a rather nice place to be, ensuring that this latest Milltek 'Fast Fleet' demonstrator will be one of the most in-demand from dealers and motoring journos. Naturally, for Autosport, Milltek plans to make a few changes to the car, starting with the exhaust system.

Although famed for its metallurgic masterpieces in Stainless Steel, for this extra-special Golf, Milltek plans to unveil something completely new, perfectly fulfilling the 'lightweight' philosophy of the Clubsport concept. No doubt featuring many of the tricks the firm has learned from its BTCC involvement with teams like Motorbase and BMR, expect this system to maximise power and torque while minimising mass, featuring the sophisticated, road-legal HJS sports catalysts to keep things TUV friendly and totally above the law.

In addition to its own upgrades, Milltek will be working with serial technical partners like KW, Racingline Performance, Liteblox Batteries and Toyo Tires in order to truly elevate the Clubsport to a new level of aesthetic and dynamic brilliance. As a true rarity in the UK (being one of only 150 cars coming to the UK), it's bound to be a popular sight on the firm's stand throughout the show.

As someone that's owned literally every version of the Golf GTI, Milltek's managing director Steve Pound was understandably excited to be developing new systems for this latest version. "As soon as I saw the Clubsport S specs, I knew that we had to have one," he enthused. "The VW group market is hugely important for us, and I can think of no better way of representing our continued commitment to the brand than by building a sorted new demo vehicle on this most iconic of platforms. If you’re a VW enthusiast – or even if you just want to see our solutions for a wide range of the latest performance models, please do stop by our stand 8540 in Hall 8."
